We’re seeking an experienced accountant to join this team in the role of Assistant Controller. The ideal candidate will have proven experience as an accountant. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will help to lead the organization in streamlining our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes

 

What’s the work like?

You will:

  • ensure completion and accuracy of the general ledger
  • reconcile and pay insurer payables
  • prepare required journal entries and financial statements on a monthly basis
  • monitor cash positions daily and reconcile all bank accounts monthly
  • prepare quarterly reporting requirements and monthly Use Tax filing.
  • review quarterly payroll tax filings, W-2’s, and prepare 1099’s
  • assist Human Resources with the preparation, input, and processing of semi-monthly payroll
  • assist in the preparation of year-end work papers for any audits and tax filings
  • assist in the preparation of the agency budget
  • assist accounting department staff with daily issues, problem-solving, workload adjustment and prioritization, and completion of monthly transaction recording deadlines in order to maximize department effectiveness
  • assist sales and sales support with daily issues as they relate to the accounting function
  • assist in the effective management of capital and operating expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and cost effectiveness; ensure compliance with applicable sales and use tax laws
  • incorporate the capabilities of the agency management system into daily workflow
  • ensure confidentiality is maintained in the collection, maintenance, and dissemination of highly sensitive information, including Protected Health Information (PHI)
  • maintain regular and consistent attendance
  • any other special projects and duties as assigned

What do I need to know?

You have to have…

  • a valid Driver’s License
  • an ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
  • an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • an ability to prepare and analyze complex financial reports
  • an ability to make independent judgments which may have considerable impact on the organization
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • strong planning, analytical and organizational skills
  • problem solving skills and negotiation skills
  • an ability to read and interpret financial information
  • knowledge of and proficiency in office equipment, including PC, fax, phone and printers
  • a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality
  • a high degree of proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), electronic mail system (Outlook), and accounting software 
  • an ability to observe safety and security procedures and use equipment and materials properly
  • an ability to conform with and abide by all workplace policies, work procedures, and instructions
  • an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and external contacts
  • a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • three (3) years of Accounting experience
  • working knowledge of GAAP

We'd like it if you have:

  • experience working within the insurance industry experience
  • experience with the following systems: Sagitta, ImageRight, or BenefitPoint
