Commercial Property & Casualty Producer - Scott Durbin, AAI

June 05, 2019

For Scott, working in the insurance industry is a family tradition. "I grew up with it as my father, Doug Durbin, started working here at Koch in 1964. I began my career after college in Banking and became a Branch Manager for a local bank before Mr. Koch asked me to come over and be a producer (salesman) for Koch. Koch had lost a personal lines producer and was looking for someone young to come on board!” Scott graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education in 1985 and was hired at The Koch Co. in 1991. After 28 years at The Koch Co., Scott holds a Senior Vice President position as a Commercial Property & Casualty Producer.

Why Commercial Insurance?

Each producer has their niche industries that they are in charge of working with. Scott is in charge of construction, education, and non-profit clients. “I see it as one of the ways that I can give back to the community. I get to use my skills to help non-profits choose the best plan for their needs and budget.” A large part of being a producer is building a relationship with each client. This line of works allows for maximum flexibility as Scott makes his own schedule so that he is able to adjust to the immediate needs of his clients. Functions of a Commercial Insurance Producer involve researching their client's industry, assessing their overall risks, and finding the best policies to fit their needs. There must be a strong sense of trust between the client and producer as insurance is a large and complex service. Scott has obtained an AAI distinction which stands for Accredited Advisor in Insurance. AAI is among the premier designations in the insurance industry as it represents an in-depth knowledge of insurance products and a heavy focus on excellent customer service.
